The girls are gone.

It’s just us.

We sorta stop and stare at each other for a minute with these confused looks on our faces.

The same question running through our head. “What’s that sound?” (Silence) and “What do we do now?”

It’s not often that we find ourselves together alone.

So of course we do what all couples would do that find themselves in this situation. We go to our local home improvement store.

What says romance more than a trip to Lowes.

My hubby is a worker bee, and he loves to get me involved in whatever he’s working on at the time.

I really don’t mind, because after 15 years of marriage I’ve learned that this is just how his brain is wired. So I go with it.

We stroll thorough the aisles of tools and hardware, electrical and plumbing. Romance at it’s best. (Hee Hee)

I love watching him as he ponders over the drill bits. He’s got so much going on in that head of his. I don’t know how he keeps it all straight.

He really is our rock. We’d be lost without him.

He doesn't love to have his picture taken ;)

In the hustle and bustle of motherhood, I often let the need for connection with my husband get pushed into the shadows. We go through the days and weeks, and months of our lives fulfilling duties to everyone but each other.

I sat across from him as we refueled on chips, salsa, and guac, (Mexican food is our love language) and I realized that I was seeing him for the first time in ages. Just he and I. No interruptions. No one else to take away our attention. It felt like our first date all over again. Just us, feeling like we were the only two people in the world. The same, yet different.

Who knew they shelved perspective and appreciation at Lowes. It’s not right out there in plain sight. You have to dig for it. But trust me I found it. Right next to the light fixtures on Aisle 7.

It's Saturday which means I'm a day late for Five Minute Friday. Better late than never, right? Anyway Friday is the day that I get to visit with a great group over at Lisa-Jo Baker's place. A place where the words flow like fresh water for my soul and encouragement abounds. I look forward to meeting here each week to read the God-given words of the women He's using to change the world.
Wont' you join us? Even if it is a day late. ;)

  1. Love this on connecting with your hubby. All too soon your children will grow up and go to college, get married and then it really gets quiet. It took us a while to find each other again, to re focus, to arrange our schedules around each other and not around kids. Then the Grandchildren come along, another sweet change, all in the process to comform us into His image. Blessings

  2. We have three little ones under the age of 4, so time alone doesn't happen often. Thanks for the reminder of how important it is to make time.

  4. I giggled all the way through this. Our children are older, but they still think it's odd that we slip off to Home Depot for dates...LOL.
Blessings come in so many forms. thanks for yours, and a smile.
God's peace and good to you.

  5. Yay for date with husband. So sweet that you described here how much you enjoy your time with your husband.

I always dream a date with my husband, at least once every couple of months. We need that time alone. :D
